Thank you Stoneage cavemen !

After all these months, (since 2006) the superb Stoneage cavemen Geocoties site is "back", with the help of Reocities, a project that rehash the lost geocities url since 2009.

Stoneage cavemen was (is) one the best site talking about garage rock bands from 80's and 90's, and come out from Greece. (See thee caveman, the blog, parallel url, from same guy.)

It was before Rate your music and Discogs became "big", and this site was the only specialised one who listed the records and tried to present systematically some photographs of the bands he known often personally (on an international level). That explains why some very little bands are present.

None is all in place today on the site.. but a big part rules ok.

Happy birthday Larsen !!

The Clique are unfair !

Ok, boyz and girlzzz, as announced, old mp3 previously posted (from 2006) on "le Podcast d'Hector" are on their way to live again, so... today let me (re) introduce you for the second time :

The CLIQUE !

The Clique is a band's name very used in pop music. But As I know from my collection
there are as much three different bands with the same name.
Please enjoy the pictures, and listen to the differences :
Unfair, by the Clique (60’s mod uk band)
(from The complete recordings on Dig the fuzz lp 002)

Read the very interesting note about the band on Rave up blog.
or : The fact that Jesse Hector was with them so times (on Jesse Hector web site)

Superman, by the (Texas) Clique (US). Yes,the song that REM has covered.
Visit The Iron leg blog for much more information.

Ground ginger, from the "Early days ep" on Detour Rec. by the Clique (90’s uk mod band). It was their first publication in that mod rnb style (just a previous more jazzy track on a Totally wird 'acid jazz comp before). But it was not the last. Very influenced band and ...influencial in the 90's.
(Some bio on wikipedia)
(Also visit their Detour label catalog)

Peter Maniette Groep !

Hi everybody !

Yes, I know, I was away for a long time. Sorry, I had so much more occupations with my work and my other web sites or blogs.
Anyway, I realized since then that the most of my mp3 were missing from the Podemus web host and so they didn't play anymore on this site !! (Aaaarg l!)

So I 'm gonna find a solution as soon as possible, to give you again the opportunity to listen to all of them.

But meanwhile, today, for your pleasure, and as I had already announced in a previous note about the Wylde Mammoths, here are three ultra rare and never issued wherever tracks from Peter Maniette, the singer, dating back when he was 16 or so ...

© photo of P M : James Jilli, from Lost Trails #9 Oct 1988

These tracks, with others from Blindshag, Crimson Shadows...etc were "given" from a k7 to me by Jens Lindberg as I was publisher of the "Here, le zine des sect maniac" in the 90's,... and were sleeping in my cave since.
I wrote at the time that Peter was not very ok to let these one appear on a fanzine, for he thought he could do better (or something like that)...
So you'll apologize Peter if you read this, but I couldn't keep no longer these little treasures apart.

So let's go back in the 90's for a pop trip from one of the coolest singer of the european garage scene, PETER MANIETTE :

- Dreamin my life away (The Performers) 1991

- Fool for your love (idem)

- All your love (Peter Maniette groep, 04/12/1993)

Peter Maniette has thess personnal kinds of voice and style that are immediatly recognizable, and give the listener each time a melancolic feeling. He is one of my (and like many many other people I guess) favourite singer of the 90's (in the so-called "garage" scene), but his style can be more associated with Pop than real garage feel.
If we quote Jens Lindberg from his "The Cave"'s interview, we understand why :
"Peter being a very “serious” song writer was influenced by garage of course but also country, Beatles etc."

Rare are the bands of this period who have left as much significant traces in the beat field from this period, and if I might quote some of them (with the same level of discography and leaving influence or related line-ups), I would have difficulties to say, in fact..

"All our love" to Peter Maniette !

Won't you please come back to me...

Melanie !

Electric fit ep The Prisoners 1984 Big Beat
+ bonus : There's a time

As no gift come alone, and because John T chance, a friend of mine told me, at my big surprise I hadn't talked to him before about the Prisoners, here is tonight another bunch of real good freakbeat, one of those made in the eighties by a band that have been so many time copied, bur rarely approached in wildness and melody.
No need to talk about Graham Day 's voice !..
.

..Melanie is one of these song that make you angry to form a band.
And what about the instrumental Revenge of the Cybermen ?
How many garage and mods combos have cried while listening to the Prisoners ?
I don't know the number... but I am one of them !

You can now get the whole discography thanks to the Ace reissues, but here are some of the true beginners, hard to find, and so raw...
Enjoy, and go to see the complete disco and line ups of this great band here on Geocities.

Electric fit ep :
Melanie, What I want,
Go go, The last thing on your mind, Revenge of the cybermen. There's a time (from flexi disc)

By request : Four wolly giants !

The WYLDE MAMMOTHS rare eps !

At last, the first ep by this greaaat 80's swedish band.
Twilightzone offered you the second ep on Crypt in November, so here is the rest of the rare disco on extended plays.

To begin, the ultra rare first one on Mystery scene, 1986. Greatsongs, with the hyper recognizible voice of Peter Maniette. So cool. European beat at his best.
All The Birds Are Gone/I’ve Been Hurt (And She Don’t Care)/I Got You/You Gonna Need Me When I’m Gone
Thank you Marco for this one, and for having made me discover the greatness of this band some 20 years ago.

To continue, the flexi given free with issue 3 of the Splendid dutch fanzine in 1988. Two songs. One "I can't go without you" as good as on the previous ep, the other "Deep down in misery" as recorded live, with a poorer sound.

Third, the free ep given with issue 7 of Misty Lane fanzine in 1994. Four great unreleased tracks :
You Gotta Go/Drivin’/Bloodhound/I Can’t Change.
A treasure for all the sad fans. Listen to the melancholic byrd's guitar on "You gotta go", or the ballad "I Can’t Change"... it's making cry.

Listen I can't change

For the complete discography, I just can advise you to go to the cave, to see all the picture covers.

Beat girls and boys from all over the world, ENJOY !!

Out in the rain... the What For !

(...and it works !!)
There is so much time passed since my last note, so it's time for... action now !
After the Kliek, and to return on dutch beat, like I had promess sometime, here is a fabulous beat band form Berlin that you can't live without.

"The kings of beatmusic in the eighties in Germany. Unrivaled and already a legend this band had it all. They were like the Pretty Things, the Kinks, The Who, The Downliner's Sect packed together in one !
"Bad night" is from their legendary first ep (...)"
(from the notes of Mike Korbik, owner of Twang Records, on his double cd comp "Tomorrow's pebbles today !" published in 1995)
* Heard about Mike on his page on : Myspace

I'd like to add the Outsiders (holland) in the list of influences this great band had.
This is one of the best records of my beat collection of the eighties, and you can file this alongside the records of other classics like the Creeps, the Wylde Mammooths, the Beatpack (soon on action Time), the Tell Tale Hearts,... to name but a few. Thanks to Twang Records for his very good taste, and his work in the eighties.

The What For were :
Urs Zelle : vocals; Pete Johannsen : drums; Martin : guitar; Boris Borowski : organ; Klotte/Thomas Starke : harmonica; Stephan Schulz : Bass guitar

Tracklisting of the album:

The What...for ! (Twang Records 1989)

01 Mach' mich an
02 Meany geany
03 You hurt me
04 He doesn't work
05 You drive me crazy
06 She's gone
07 I want it all
08 Of hopes and dreams
09 Comin' home.
10 By your side
11 Clarabella
12 Heartbeat
13 Her
14 The cost of living

In bonus, I add the Out in the rain ep (Twang 1991) :

15 Out in the rain
16 Rotkarierte petersilie
17 How I feel
18 Say alright

and 19 "Bad night", one track from their first (and sought after) ep that you can listen right now to cry alone in your bedroom :

(thanks to J-Marc Varlet from Varluche Records for having sent me the picture of the cover.)

The Kliek are well respected men !

As promised, here is a unissued compilation, and a gift, from a fan for all the lovers of this great dutch band.
Here we can listen to the talent and the evolution of a so cool band formerly inspired by some 60's icons like the Byrds, the Outsiders and... the Monkees which came to the rupture when too much dissension (as usal !?).
Then Marcel krupp quit to form the Trebble Spankers, a surf guitar drenched combo, and Robert Mûtter called again his ancient pal Stefan Steutel, to make his new wild and great trio "Kek'66".
But no more balabla, come and listen to BEHIND BARS, the second lp of the KLIEK, a super effort full of great ballads, of garage folk mid tempo, which with "Feel good", the third and last studio album represents the summum of their sound and carreer. (with the first "Zitj let me staan" ep in my opinion, but all are superb anyway).

Behind Bars lp (Grabo 002-L) 1990

Going too far
I'm gonna get that girl
Quiet side of the bay
I wonder
None of your business
Pushover
Boston
Now I have
I nevertold ou
Today I'm gay
You're the only world I know
I'm never coming back
Leave my house

As a gift never came alone, you'll fine in bonus a rare (and non authorised, but Robert, if you see, hey!, it's for posterity !) compilation of all the singles and comps extracts the Kliek have made. (taken from my own personnal collection).

At this point, just one precision about the discography. There never been a "Across the milky way" single in 1989, as noted in some fanzines (french almost at that time). It was a live k7 recorded at the Milky way club an edited by the band's label).
For the complete disco with pictures of covers, see : veltink.org
and for a real good damn bio, go to : Kliek bio

Now, let's go, and thanks to you, the Kliek for all you did.

Singles, rare tracks :

- Valleri ep (Kep011) 12/88
- Glitter and gold (Scap001 in Ex Nexus n°9 fanzine given split ep)

- Sandra/House of stone (Twang 130662- 1992)

- Me right now/Nothing's changed (Twist6 ep 1992)

- It's my pride/More and more amore/I'll find a way/No one here to play with (Outer limits 62-702 ep) 1994
- House in he country (in "Animal, tribute to The Kinks" Animals Records)
- Love song n°2 (in "Misfits, tribute to the Outsiders", Scalp)
- Girl in black (in Larsen fanzine n°7, 1993)
- Look out, here comes tomorrow (in "Black beauties, a fab comp, Fab Rec.)

All ripped from glorious vinyls.
