May 2011 : Al Kooper Wake me, shake me

Enfin !

At last, I put my hands on a vinyl edition of this classic. (Even if it's a reissue with barre code !) (...)
I already wrote about this lp on a previous note (see link above), but enjoy a track from this. This is so bluesfull :

The show of Larry Williams & Johnny (Guitar) Watson

The Larry Williams show
Featuring Johnny Guitar Watson
with the Stormsville Shakers
(Decca LK4691, 1965)

Produced by Mike Vernon
Engineer : Bill Price

Like many R'n'Blues fans, I actually had the chance to put my hands on the CD reissue of this wild live performance back in the mid eightties.
This is without doubt one of the coolest R'n'blues live lp to came out in the sixties.
Two stars with great voice and superb guitar playing !
For a cool retrospective bio of Larry Williams, talking about the origin of this show, see Surfinbird blog at : http://surfinbird.centerblog.net

And here are the original notes : (taken from the CD reissue, Edsel 1984)

Listen to "Slow down"

NB : "The featured vocalist on "Looking back" and "Two hours past mignight" is Johnny Watson; both Larry and Johhny are featured on "Sweet little baby", "trustin me" and "For your love". "Stormville groove" features Johnny and Larry on electric piano.

Pictures of Yan Tregger

As I was listening to some records at home, I passed upon this lp a friend of mine sold me some years ago for some francs.

Yan Tregger is known by afficionados for movie soundtracks, and not Blockbusters, believe me.
Last week I tried to listen to an horror movie soundtrack from this guy : ("Bloodnight", 1982), and I rapidely deleted it after dowloading, because of its lack of interest.

But this one is not made of this shape. Rather an imaginary movie soundtrack than a real one, this is (and after Groovecollector.com) :
"A killer... fuzzy & groovy jerks LP, french killer instrumentation with enormous breaks on this orchestral instrumental pop psycho 70's ."

Listen to "Hugger mugger"

The original first (and really rare) edition (was) on Neuilly white press. It exists also on other cheap press on crea sound ... so this is the one I share today with you.

Enjoy !

The Soulful mood of Dee Clark

Dee Clark
Keep it up
Charly R&B, 1980

Some records need more time to get apprehended, giving all their richness after some playings.
That's the case of this compilation, wich at first sight might be compared to a Sam Cooke's one. Same kind of voice, and parallel melodies...

But this is not Sam Cooke, and the full album is more than a simple plagiarism.

After three playings, I must admit that this is a very good album, and Dee Clark a great artist ! But poor me ! : that was just what was wrote on the sleeve's notes.

Tracklisting : Your Friends (with the Dells ) / Nobody But Me / You're Telling Our Secrets / Don't Walk Away From Me / Bring Back My Heart / I'm A Soldier Boy / Shook Up Over You / Raindrops / Hey Little Girl / The Convention (with The DELEGATES) / Emma Jean / Oh Little Girl (with The UPSETTERS) / Wondering (with The UPSETTERS) / Nobody But You / When I Call Upon You
